Viola Amore (ヴィオラ・アモーレ Viora Amōre?) is a playable character that appears in the Game Boy Advance game Fullmetal Alchemist: Sonata of Memories. She is an automail mechanic who lives in Nelvo and is the older sister of Lyre Amore.

History[]

Viola is first seen in the opening of the game, where Winry has just finished assisting one of her clients with his automail. The town ends up being bombed, and Winry and Viola help the injured together.

Eventually, Viola is seen at Resembool by Edward and Alphonse, running away from a man injured by Liberale. She is, for awhile, suspected as being a part of said organisation, with Edward determined to track her down (although he seems more preoccupied with the fact she always insults his height when she sees him).

Every time she meets the group, she runs off, sometimes fighting but always escaping, speaking venomously of State Alchemists.

Eventually, the group tracks her down to Nelvo, where they find her entertaining the village children. She sends them off once she sees who's there. A fight breaks out initially, but things manage to settle down and she explains that she isn't part of Liberale. Ed and especially Lute are still suspicious of her involvement, but Winry is completely convinced.

Once it's night, Viola and Winry have a talk on the bench outside her house, bonding over their shared fondness of automail, with Winry making a note that there aren't many girls who have interest in it. It's here that Viola reveals she's actually hunting down Liberale to get revenge for kidnapping her sister, something that's relayed to Edward and the rest the next morning.

From there, she joins the party, becoming a permanent addition to the team for the rest of the game.

Etymology[]

Her name is derived from Viola d'amore, a 6-stringed or 7-stringed instrument that was used primarily during the baroque period.

Trivia[]

  • Viola follows the trend of non-canon female Fullmetal Alchemist characters in protagonist roles being given red or orange hair, being the third following Armony Eiselstein and Corniche Royce. Viola herself would later be followed by Julia Crichton.
  • Viola, like the other major characters of Sonata of Memories (Claves Fagott, Lute Zaxophone, etc.) share a theme of being named after musical instruments.
