Cathrine Elle Armstrong[1] (キャスリン・エル・アームストロング ), also Catherine[2] or Katherine,[3] is the fourth daughter and youngest child of the illustrious Armstrong Family and the youngest sister of Major General Olivier Armstrong and Major Alex Louis Armstrong.
Appearance[]

Cathrine's official reference sheet from the 2003 anime.
Being a part of the Armstrong Family, Cathrine has many of their distinct traits, including being fair-skinned with blonde hair and a single strand sticking out in the middle of her forehead. According to Alex Louis Armstrong in Episode 37, Cathrine also "the Armstrong" eyelashes. Apart from that, unlike the imposing and/or powerful looking members of her family, Cathrine is a dainty and beautiful young girl with a slender yet noticeably curvaceous and well-endowed frame. Her hair reaches waist-length with shoulder-length hair strands hanging on either side, and she has sea-green (blue in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) eyes.
Personality[]
While a meek and soft-spoken young girl, Cathrine's demeanor and delicate appearance belie an inherited strength that allows her to lift objects like pianos above her head with one hand. Cathrine is shy by nature, but she has stated that she prefers the company of men who are as muscular and strong as her elder brother Alex Louis Armstrong. This may be an effect of how the Armstrong family values muscular strength and military backgrounds.
History[]

Havoc's imagination of what Major Armstrong's sister might look like.
Cathrine first appears in the Bonus Chapter: The Second Lieutenant Goes to Battle! (which is later adapted into Episode 37 of the 2003 anime series) where she is formally introduced to Second Lieutenant Jean Havoc, who has been forced to end a budding relationship in East City upon being transferred to Central City. Despite Havoc's initial fears regarding Cathrine's family bloodline, he finds himself attracted to her and the two appear to get along well. But when he asks Cathrine out directly, she apologizes and says that she only dates muscular men who are like her brother Alex Louis Armstrong, much to Havoc's shock and disappointment.
Cathrine appears again in Chapter 83 when Olivier Mira Armstrong demands that Philip Gargantos Armstrong leave the Armstrong mansion to her and immediately vacate. He understands that his daughter is warning him of some impending danger and does so, leaving for Xing with Mrs. Armstrong and Cathrine. As Olivier and Alex battle over the right to the mansion, Cathrine kindly offers wishes of good luck to Alex, suggesting that she may prefer her brother to her eldest sister.

Cathrine unknowingly thwarts Yoki's burglary attempt.
In Episode 38 of the 2009 anime series, Cathrine is revealed to have thwarted Yoki's attempt to rob the Armstrong mansion when he accidentally startled her by running into the same room and she threw her piano straight at him in a fit of terror.
