Where is this confirmed in the manga or anime?
I'd like to know because I'm done with the 2003 adaptation and got no clear-cut answers as to what the story of the 2009 adaptation is
This bugged me even more than the (now resolved) Homunculus question when I first saw the original series six years ago.
In at least one episode (I think the one where Ed and Al are on Yock Island), Al goes into the water to catch some fish, with his empty armor as the net. He's also been in the rain quite a bit.
However, in Episodes 43 and 44 they say Al can't go into the water because it will wash away his blood seal, and they say the only reason he survives falling into the water in Episode 44 is because he is now a Philosopher's Stone, when he obviously wasn't all the other times.
What's up with that?
I thought a homunculus was supposed to be adorable and tiny!
Did you feel sad or satisfied? I know there are plenty of people who feel either way.
I wanted him dead more than any character except maybe Tucker, who Scar killed in his first episode. He killed an Ishvalan child to start a civil war, got the officer he was impersonating court-martialed for it, and boasted to Ed about it. And let's not forget he killed Hughes while disguised as his wife. He is a complete psycho. Not to mention his One-Winged Angel form is creepy due to all the souls trapped inside him visible on his skin/scales, though not quite as creepy as Pride.
Then in his final moments, I couldn't help but feel for him. Part of it might be the almost-adorable form he took at the end (which I'm sure was meant to look pathetic and insignificant first, it was the eyes), even though the last time he took that form he showed he was still a threat.
I keep trying to remind myself he had the worst possible death coming, and the whole moment all came down to disgrace and humiliation at the realization that he was jealous of humans, who he thought he looked down on, and that a "pipsqueak" like Ed figured it out.
There is a certain irony that Envy was seemingly oblivious to his own, well, envy, as well as that for once Ed doesn't flip out at someone calling him something like "pipsqueak". (I always did notice that Envy seemingly lacked jealousy, where Lust seduces men before she kills them, Gluttony eats people, Greed is greedy for everything, Sloth is lazy, Wrath heads a military that starts pointless wars and often steps in to do some of the killing himself, and Pride thinks himself superior).
I think I'm over the initial sadness and can feel some level of satisfaction that Envy got what was coming to him, but I still can't help but feel a bit of pity.
The Sloth fight ending in his death the following episode felt so uplifting after that. (Alex Louis Armstrong is one of my favorite characters too)
So, how did you feel about Envy's death? Sad, satisfied, or a bit of both? No wrong answers here - WatchMojo twice left Envy off the "satisfying anime deaths" list in favor of Lust, and some thought Envy still should have been on there. Some were smiling during Envy's whole death scene, some were surprised to shed tears over the character they wanted to die horribly.
(Side note - At the time I wrote this, I'm at Greed's fight with Wrath, so don't tell me where he and Pride end up. I already had Greed's final fate spoiled already though, and I already know one Homunculus survives, which must either be Wrath or Pride)
I'm looking for a song in episode 36 'Family Portrait' right when Hohenheim's picture was taken a song plays that is only vocals. I cant seem to find it anyone knows what it is?
I saw the original Fullmetal Alchemist years ago. It is definitely one of the better animes in my book.
Just recently I started Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, I just got to Greed's death episode and Father's introduction (Episode 14). I've noticed many similarities (like the Cornello and Tucker episodes) and many differences (like Fuhrer King Bradley is Wrath where in the original he was Pride, and Sloth is quite different, and no idea what Pride will be like, and of course an entirely different main villain, not to mention revealing Bradley's true identity and the main villain much earlier, also Grand doesn't seem to be a villain here and the Homunculus have different origins).
It's still too early in to tell which I like better, though some of the Brotherhood episodes are a little slow, but it has picked up with the two-episode Greed arc, and I still have yet to see the other six Homunculus and Father be defeated (well, I already saw Lust's death scene on WatchMojo but I'm trying to keep everything else a surprise), as well as where they go with Scar, not to mention Barry and Yoki, and how/if Al gets his body back.
And I might think about rewatching original series when I'm done.
So which do you think is better - original anime or Brotherhood?
The main rule of this post: Do NOT be mean to someone for feeling differently than you. If you prefer one, don't think someone is stupid for liking the other. Don't hate on them for liking one you dislike, or vice versa. Just say which you prefer and why, and maybe say other good points about the other, or even politely say what you disliked about the other.
So in the original series, the Homunculus are not part of the main villain's soul driven out, but created when someone tries to bring someone back from the dead with alchemy. (Like Sloth was created when Ed and Al tried to revive their mother, Wrath when Izumi tried to revive her son, etc.)
So there are seven Homunculus, why? Because seven resurrections were attempted. Two of them in the course of the show.
Here's the thing - each is named after one of the Seven Deadly Sins, and conveniently there have been precisely seven Homunculus, one named for each of them.
So, if an eighth Homunculus had been created from another attempted resurrection, what would he or she have been called? Since all seven names in the naming scheme were already taken? Would it be like an Envy Jr. or something, or maybe named for Four Horsemen next?
I know that FMA has had 2 pop-up cafe events, but that was kind of it after that. I don't understand how it's the #1 top-rated anime, but there's no big collaborations. Other anime like MHA and Naruto have entire HOTELS. I don't get it. ;-;
Mostly because I now have a candle in my room that smells like chocolate and I want to S N I F F it because it's cool, but Im not here to talk about it.
I'm talking about damned FMA Fandom!
I'm sure lots of people forgot about FMA...or didn't forget, they just left the fandom, that caused it to be nearly dead, and that caused anime/manga to be a bit forgotten. I'm shivering a bit when I think about thing that may happen in future: "TOP 10 ANIME SIBLINGS" And I cant see Elric bros anywhere so I comment "what 'bout Elric bros" and the person who wrote this would be like.
"Who're Elric brothers"
"F-fullmetal Alchemist...don't ya know it-"
And that's frisking depressing.
BUT IM NOT GIVING UP JUST YET! I'M FILLED WITH DETERMINATION AND PATIENCE TO RESSURECT THIS FANDOM!
Just wait a several years. I will become a youtuber, gather lots of subscribes, and then I will make my fans watch FMA. No matter the cost. Or matter. Definitely not gonna give up my souls for this tho.
This manga was perfect. A manga I wanted. A perfect balance between main characters and side characters. Well - written relationships. A good, unique personalities and plot. A good character development and depressing reality of Edward growing up (please stay small Mr. Fullmetal Alche- shi* I can hear him yelling NONONONO WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH THIS PAN-)
I will bring the FMA fandom back! For sure! I won't fail, I'm too D E T E R M I N E D! Don't fear, for I will create a new generation of FMA fans!
Don't forget November 22, the day when FMA ended, when our journey ended. But it doesn't matter, since we always can come back to it.
I just realised'
It's been raining since FMA fandom became so silent
Maybe that's why it started dying
Because Roy Mustang is uselsess when it's raining
So fangirls didn't come
And the last hope of Fandom was shattered
Can someone tell me why mustang is a corporal in the first movie?
So you know how Ed and Winry had kids but weren't named? I've thought of them, and I think "Elliott" and "Mary" are good names. Thoughts?
I always had a doubt. Alchemists who have not seen the truth need symbols to transmute, and each element has its symbol. But Edward doesn't need symbols because he saw the truth, but then why doesn't Edward transmute all the elements? Why doesn't he transmute fire and water for example?
Ok I KNOW that fma is pretty old, but...
PLEASE if you have a weeb friend/someone who doesnt mind watching anime and you know they'd like this genre of manga/anime, tell them about FMA! It's so good that it'd be a shame if it was just forgotten like that. I want FMA to be remembered for a long time, since this is the best manga I've ever seen, nothing, literally, NOTHING can compare to this.
So please do this. I'm already translating manga to my 3 weeb friends.
You might be gone, but you’ll remain forever in our hearts
It’s a shame :’(
Can’t we all just agree both versions of FMA are amazing in their own way?
Things FMA did better:
Most of the Homunculi (except Pride)
Strays from the usual shonen clichés
Fewer characters, but all were executed almost perfectly
Envy was the type of villain you love to hate. He makes my blood boil
Humour in the right places
Much more poetic ending
A lot of you hate the first adaptation because it doesn’t follow the manga. But I don’t see why that’s a reason. Arakawa-sensei herself said it was a brilliant story in its own.
Things Brotherhood did better:
Most of my ships (Royai, LingFan, EdWin, Meiphonse)
In short: Brotherhood had the plot and villain, but FMA had the characters and ending.
You might hate me for this, but I loved the ending of FMA... not despite it being so dissatisfying, but because of it. Went to show how imperfect the world is.
”Nothing’s perfect. The world’s not perfect. But it’s there for us, doing the best it can. That’s what makes it so damn beautiful.” ~Roy Mustang
See? Even Mustang says it.
